Remote Lectures Ready to Go

I know many camera clubs have been trialing remote meeting services so they can continue to deliver a lecture programme and a chance for members to interact in these difficult times. I’d got lots of lectures booked this year and who knows when clubs will open their doors again - so I’ve been testing several remote meeting services & I’m now ready to go.

I’ve successfully delivered my lectures using Zoom & GoToMeeting, but my preference is for Zoom because it delivers videos better.

If you’ve not used a remote meeting service before you should try it - it really couldn’t be easier. Just click on a link in an email & you can join a group of up to 100 people and watch the lecture live in your own living room on a pc, mac, tablet or phone - plus if you have a microphone you can ask questions and chat to other members. It doesn’t necessarily have to be at the time (or day) of your normal club meeting - just a mutually convenient time for all.

Here’s how it would work;

  1. I’d send the club organiser a link which they would then send on to interested club members. Alternatively the club hosts the meeting and invites me to be a co-host. The end result is the same…

  2. At the agreed time we’d all log on & I’d deliver the lecture

  3. You would see my PowerPoint presentation on your screen & hear my voice via your computer speakers

  4. There would be time at the end for a Q&A session

If you’d like a quick demo just drop me an email or give me a call (07767 208784) - it’d only take 10 minutes and it would give you an insight into how you might be able to use it for your club, regardless of whether you want to book one of my lectures. Click here for a bit more info

Adding a Ball into a Sports Image

When I present my Sports Lecture I'm often asked "do you move the ball in your sports images for maximum visual impact?" And my reply is "yes - all the time!"

Here’s a short video I recorded for Trevor (who asked that very question) showing how I do it...

Creating the Serenity Images

I’ve been back in the swimming pool recently developing a new project called Water Dance. It prompted me to create a short YouTube video showing behind the scenes at my first major swimming pool project, Serenity. It was a great project, full of ups & downs, and there were many times when I wondered if I’d ever get a decent image. In the end it all came good & we got a few we were all happy with. Sincere thanks to my model Jane Riley & constant photographic companion, Marlies Chell.

Rooni Siraj - Weightlifting Champion

I had the pleasure of photographing my good friend Rooni Siraj yesterday. Rooni is a weightlifting champion who represents England - but above & beyond that he’s a really nice guy. I met him on a weightlifting project I started 18 months ago and he’s the first Pro sportsperson I’ve got to know well. The dedication & sacrifice these people display is awesome. I photographed him at the British & the UK Championships last year & it really adds an extra dimension when you are rooting for one of the competitors. This image conveys how I see him - a real sporting hero (of mine).

Table Tennis - at last I get an opportunity!

I first approached Table Tennis England two years ago to seek permission to photograph at high level competitions. They were happy to give me a press pass but it turned out I’d just missed the once a year Nationals. Once the dates came out for the next year I discovered I was away on holiday! Anyway, finally yesterday I got my chance at the Mark Bates National Championships held at Nottingham University. Access was amazing, just a few metres from the players, but as always with indoor events lack of light was the main problem to overcome. I think I’ll get a few to work up though.
