Just received this feedback from the Newark workshop. Makes it all worthwhile…
I have managed to speak to many of the members who attended on Saturday and have heard nothing but praise both for the presentation and content of the workshop. Comments received were; excellent, very good, very inspirational, brilliant, great day, very professional. Some expanded their answers with; really enjoyed it, first class information, interesting, learned something, motivated me to develop my skills, stimulated my interest, well organised, good value for money, not precious with your knowledge, the USB stick alone is worth the attendance fee. One member has used her knowledge to improve an image for our PDI comp next Monday. Another is going to upgrade his computer to be able to use CC. Some have had time to view the videos and are very impressed. One asked if you could do a lecture to the students at Lincoln Uni - the 3 students all enjoyed the day.
Thank you so much for this day, a comprehensive and professional presentation I would recommend to anybody whether or not success in photographic competitions is the aim.
Please say thank you to Marlies.
All the best and looking forward to seeing you again in the future.

Newark Workshop Feedback
Hip Hop
I’ve not been doing a lot of editing recently but I’m getting back into it now - I love editing images and I can happily spend all day doing it. I took this image 13 months ago so that’s much longer than I normally leave images before working them up. But I do like to leave a reasonable time because I think you are in a better position to assess their potential. To explain; I took 135 images of Steph and this is the only one I will use in competitions. I think I was better able to decide this was the one because any high’s and low’s of the shoot have long since faded from the memory, I’m not so emotionally attached now. I used a Pinterest board to give me inspiration - a technique I use regularly to gather lots of images I like from around the Web. I was also able to use a background from a shoot 4 years ago - an abandoned waterworks in South Yorkshire. Together with my good friend David Cudworth I had a short Urbex fascination & we got into lots of abandoned buildings. We had great fun (big kids & all that) so it’s great to also be able to use an image that has good memories. Anyway, here’s the image, with special thanks to the dancer, Steph Ovenden.

Newark workshop
I was delighted to deliver my How to Create Competition Winning Images workshop for Newark Photographic Society yesterday. We had 26 attenders so that was my largest workshop to date and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to Rose King for perfect organisation.
