As I give my lectures around the country the topic I’m most asked about is printing. It seems so many people have had (or continue to have) bad print experiences. I’m passionate about printing & I’ll admit to wasting a fair amount of ink & paper in the early days, but I’m glad to say all that’s behind me now. I genuinely believe that if you set up your printer and software correctly you’ll never waste another drop of ink, what you see on your monitor is what you’ll get on the printed paper. Join me for a one day printing workshop & I guarantee you’ll leave with the skills & settings to get 100% perfect prints every time.
First workshop delivered!
I ran my first workshop last Sunday - and I really enjoyed it! I delivered a fair bit of business training in my 30s so it’s not completely new to me, but I must admit it was daunting having 20 people looking to you, and only you, for instruction over 6 hours. I’d put lots of preparation in and I was certainly glad I had, it’s remarkable how some simple Photoshop technique you’ve done a 100 times before suddenly becomes very difficult! One of the most challenging aspects for me was not on the day though, it was recording the 22 videos that cover every component of my workflow in complete detail. The actual learning time is 5½ hours but I reckon it took at least 10x this to record and edit them. I’m falling increasingly in love with making videos so in that regard, whilst it was hard work, it was great fun too. Everyone gets to take them away on a USB stick & several people have already come back to me and said how useful they are finding them to use in their own time, so that makes the hard work worthwhile. All in all I feel the first workshop went well and the feedback I’ve received since confirms that, so I’m really looking forward to the next one now - it’s at the end of January. Bring it on :-)
New lecture & Lightroom tutorials
I’ve just put the finishing touches to a new lecture “An Introduction to Lightroom”. As part of the lecture I’ll be offering 5 Lightroom tutorials which I’ve just added to my Tutorials page.
This lecture is designed to be a basic introduction to Lightroom’s features & real world examples of how I use it in my workflow. A short video showing examples of the content can be seen here
Precisely match exposures with one click
I use online tutorials a lot. I look for people who can give me snippets of useful information fast - I can’t stand the ones that waffle on! My favourite is this guy - PiXimperfect & I thought this 4 minute one was great
Masters of Print presentation
I was in Birmingham today picking up my award. A lovely surprise was an additional £200 award from Photospeed - thanks guys!
A very special evening
I’m a member of a small camera club (H15) in addition to my main club (Rolls Royce). We recently lost a member & very dear friend, Fran Muldoon, & last night we ran a friendly competition in his honour. Our judge for the evening was one of this region’s best, Dave Hollingsworth. Dave selected his favourite image from the 5 prints entered by each member & then together with Fran’s widow, Margaret, they chose the winner. I’m really honoured that they chose my Diving Gannet image - so I became the first recipient of the Fran Muldoon trophy which Margaret had generously supplied. It’s a competition we’re going to run annually to keep the memory of our dear friend alive - he was genuinely one of the nicest blokes you could meet.
